Author: Harry McQue (see footer for details)

Introduction

Healthcare opportunities for hospital design consultants are expanding rapidly as healthcare systems worldwide invest in new hospitals, refurbishment, digital transformation, and sustainable infrastructure. This article builds on earlier discussions about healthcare design team members and outlines an international platform created to connect experienced hospital designers, consultants, and decision-makers.

An International Platform for Hospital Design Professionals

To support collaboration and knowledge sharing, I founded HospitalDesignTips.com, a web-based platform for the key stakeholders involved in healthcare facility design and delivery. The platform is intended for:

  • Hospital and healthcare architects
  • Engineering consultants and specialist advisers
  • Healthcare planners and project managers
  • Medical equipment specialists
  • Students, clinicians, operators, and decision-makers

The goal is to create practical healthcare opportunities for consultants while also improving understanding of hospital design principles across regions.

Who Is Part of the Healthcare Design Team?

Modern hospital projects require a multidisciplinary team with specialist healthcare experience, including:

  • Architects specialising in healthcare facilities
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Civil & Structural Engineers
  • Medical Equipment Planning Specialists
  • Healthcare Planners and Clinical Planners
  • Radiation Protection Advisers / Medical Physicists
  • Room Data Sheet and BIM Content Developers
  • Acoustics Consultants
  • Disability Access and Inclusive Design Advisers
  • Sustainability and Net-Zero Carbon Advisers
  • Health & Safety Consultants
  • Infection Prevention and Control Advisers

Each discipline plays a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant healthcare environments. You may also want to refer to this wiki article:

Objectives of the Hospital Design Consultant Network

The platform focuses on creating real-world healthcare opportunities for hospital design professionals by:

  1. Building a comprehensive international database of healthcare-experienced consultants across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, with a particular focus on China, India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  2. Identifying hospital and healthcare projects worldwide that require specialist consultants.
  3. Connecting clients, developers, and healthcare providers with the right designers in each geographical region.
  4. Educating stakeholders on the fundamentals of healthcare and hospital design to support better decision-making.

How to Join the Healthcare Consultant Database

To initiate the database, we currently use a structured PDF registration form for healthcare consultants and professionals. A dedicated online portal is planned as time and resources allow.

  • Registration is free of charge at this stage.
  • A modest referral fee, aligned with the scale of work, may be agreed only if a consultant is successfully referred to a project.

If you are a healthcare consultancy or an individual professional seeking international hospital design opportunities, you are welcome to register.

Share Your Healthcare Design Experience

We actively invite healthcare designers and professionals to share insights, lessons learned, and stories about how design influences clinical outcomes and workplace performance. These contributions help strengthen the global healthcare design community.

You can share your ideas by email at Harry@Hospital-Designs.com.
